Whether that is a good thing or not is hard to say. Certainly in theory the same government for all sounds like a good way to cure many of the worlds ills and improve it for the better.

In the EU we have a mini version of a world government so we can see what happens when a number of countries are ruled by the same government. There have been experiments before along the same lines and none apart from the USA(a special case) survived in tact.

So far the results have not been impressive. It has not made peoples lives generally better in fact I would say it has made them worse off. My observation tells me that for all the good it does which is to impose a spirit of cooperation it also sows discord as an unintended consequence. It also causes problem that if it did not exist in it's present form would not have happened. Worst of all it takes away our freedoms already meagre at national level almost non existent at EU level. So World government may be desirable but at this time unattainable as we are not ready for it just as we are not ready for the EU.

I doubt we will ever be ready for either unless we change our nature. Social animals we maybe but our preference is to be so in small groups shown by the fact that as we join things like the EU at the same time people are demanding devolution. A tug of war of self determination one side pulling to give it away the other side pulling to have more of it. Humans are perverse or what?
