It would eliminate all arguments.

Like Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto and the Little Book Of Mao and all those invented religious tomes... they have lots more letters available and look at how insightful and calming they are.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2495971764170848323.post-47281906805809747592013-02-04T21:51:45.824+00:002013-02-04T21:51:45.824+00:00Oh my. The pomposity of your response and your unshakeable belief in your utterly unproven assertions - philosophy and religion are cut from the same cloth - only serves to confirm my first impressions. In Jacob Rees-Mogg it is anachronistic & quaint yet charming. But you, young sir, appear to be a prig.

I do hope that one day you will appreciate this.Batsbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06426643733506493701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2495971764170848323.post-787341249461826172013-02-04T12:19:04.045+00:002013-02-04T12:19:04.045+00:00To elaborate,
I fully recognise your arguments th...To elaborate,

I fully recognise your arguments that you put forward with regards to different priorities and general wisdom. However, there are a few things I wish to cover in response;

Firstly, the emprical argument. You briefly mentioned the original greek doctrine of politics, but another very famous one that you missed was rationalism (or innatism).

To speak so openly (as if it were fact) that people are born stupid and knowledge comes with experience is incorrect. Although it's deemed as a hegemenous viewpoint, then I take issue at claiming it as fact.It's an extremely prominent debate within modern and ancient philosophy, and one which we are stil seeking the answer.

Secondly, Twitter. Now, as you've already discussed - writing an argument or a point of view in less than 140 characters is pretty impossible. Judgments are cast pretty damn quickly based on snapshots of opinions, and that isn't necessarily right at all. With that in mind, I apologise for calling you a tit (as well as other things) and I appreciate why you hold the opinion that you do, however I do not apologise to the brown-nosed sheep in which accompanied you.

Furthermore, I disagree with your view regarding the lack of importance that young people play within politics.

If we look at gay marriage for instance, as you rightly said the decision will only affect around 1%, so why do the Government care? The simple answer is this - progression of morality. How has this progression taken place? By the prominence of the young.

If we look at this from a more stereotypical mindset and say that typically, the gay marriage debate tends to be between the older generation and the younger generation, as well as the religious and non-religious (which coincidentally coincide with old and young).

Although I fully commend the classical liberal ideology of extreme negative liberty and the opposition to the imposition of gay marriage, I have to say that it is only a real issue to 1) - Homophobic's and 2) - Religious people.

As you rightly said at the end of this post, then there are much bigger issues such as leaving the EU, and one which the public seem to be opening their eyes to more and more each day. However, you cannot underestimate the young. Unreliable, perhaps. Powerful, certainly.

Although they may not provide the most reliable turnout, they can also be extremely influential. If for instance, socialisation allows alternate views, then the EU can actually be seen in the correct light - a complete waste of bloody time, money and general energy.

My generations 'norm' if you like is to support gay marriage and be particularly socially left, but after it's legislated (which it more than likely will) then we can get past such an issue which affects so few, and get the younger generations to focus on the real issue that affects absolutely everyone.

The EU is nothing but a dictatorial, undemocratic and paternalistic waste of bloody space. The sooner we leave, the sooner we as a society can progress.

Hopefully this covers why I disagree with your viewpoint, and hopefully this will enable a rational debate rather than point-scoring over Twitter.

Reece Warren

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
